Loris AZZARO
Loris Azzaro, a fashion designer who made clothes for the actresses Raquel Welch and Sophia Loren, died here on Thursday. He was 70. The cause was cancer, his company said.
Mr. Azzaro, also well known for his perfumes, arrived on the fashion scene in the 1960's as a specialist in fun party clothes after abandoning a career as an academic.
Despite his fame, Mr. Azzaro never designed haute couture clothing and was not a member of the elite Chambre Syndicale, which groups the top designers showing in France.
Mr. Azzaro also created designs worn by Marisa Berenson, Claudia Cardinale and Isabelle Adjani. Nicole Kidman is a fan of his vintage pieces.
